Project Gutenberg

Recommended Site Michael Hart, the founder of Project Gutenberg, invented the eBook (electronic book) in 1971 and with this site he endeavors to encourage and promote the distribution of eBooks. The project is entirely made up of volunteers and, as such, they admit they’re not terribly bossy about what format they use in the creation of their books. Did I mention the eBooks are free? On the day I reviewed the site, over 2 million books had been downloaded so far. The top 100 downloaded eBooks ran the gamut from The Outline of Science, Vol. 1 (of 4) by J. Arthur Thomson to The Story of Rouen by Sir Theodore Andrea Cook to The Marvelous Land Of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Not only is this a worthwhile endeavor, it’s schloads of fun too.
