The mouth on his in the dark was demanding and insistent and paradoxically in no hurry at all, tracing and teasing his lips, sipping his tongue in and then retreating just enough to leave him wanting more before leaning in and taking him again and he imagined he could taste the smile there, a little smug and a little sly and a lot certain of welcome. And the kiss was indeed welcome, if unexpected. It grew, this kiss, to encompass his entire attention, the world narrowed down to just this solitary contact in the dark, lips on lips and with no other contact, as if he might be imagining this in the dark of some lonely dreamless night, but he did not imagine the barest brush of fingers against the hair above his temple as those smiling lips withdrew one more time and the jarring restart of the elevator and the return of the overhead light left him blinking owlishly and his partner grinning, smug indeed and smoothing his lapels and shooting his cuffs.

“Did you time it?”

“The backup generator takes fifty seconds to take over after a power shut down.” Napoleon said. “The elevators are the third system to engage after the communications center and the security cameras.” Napoleon’s smile was a little too predatory, a little more feral than it should have been. “But there are no infrared cameras in this elevator.”

“That could change.”

“Maybe, but I will be sure to note that in the next security report and be sure to get trapped on a different elevator for the next emergency drill.”

Illya only rolled his eyes.

“But only with you, partner mine, what fun is it to be alone in the dark, hmm?”

Illya waited, until Napoleon turned and exited the elevator, to grin.
