“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” to “A Fish Called Wanda”

 

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) – 80’s teen comedy at its finest; its the story of Ferris’ decision to take a day off from school and take his best friend and girlfriend with him on his adventure in Chicago. On target jabs at high school, an hysterical scene with Ben Stein taking attendance, and comments after the end credits all add up to make this a must see. (SC)

Field of Dreams (1998) – “If you build it, they will come.” Kevin Costner shines in this fantasy tale of an Iowa farmer who turns his cornfield into a baseball diamond and soon spirits of dead players are showing up for a game. A personal story of redemption and family, it means something different to everyone who sees it. (GS)

Fight Club (1999) – This is one of those haunting films that you’ll want to watch again right after you’ve finished it because you’re not quite sure you saw what you think you saw. Inventive, original, intense… (GS)

Finding Neverland (2004) – Finding Neverland is the story of James M. Barrie, the playwright who wrote Peter Pan. Johnny Depp rarely fails in his choice of scripts and he succeeded again in this film. There is a lot of pulling at your heartstrings and the characters are as well developed as the storyline. It’s a beautiful tale from start to finish. (SC)

A Fish Called Wanda (1988) – Amusing if, perhaps, slightly over-rated comedy about a botched bank job. Charles Crichton directs with patience and flair and, whilst John Cleese is by turns funny and irritating, Michael Palin steals the movie as the hapless animal loving bank robber who seems fated to spend the entire moving accidentally killing animals.
