That footage is absolutely breathtaking, some of the most amazing stuff I’ve ever seen. They’re going to do a 3D version of this one of these days.

Doctor Who: New Born
Wow! I’m in awe (again) of how thebigbluemeany manages to do so much in the relatively short time allotted. There’s a strong narrative driving the action forward; all the while building an additional subplot of character emotions.
Video of the Week: Rock Star
A perfectly engineered assault on the senses! The amazingly kinetic visual flow, underpinned by a thumping base line, is one killer combination.

Week 6
I’m catching up! This is the first list where I’ve seen all five movies, great choices. One of the interesting things about Alphaville is that there were no sets–it was all filmed in existing 1965 Paris locations, particularly La Defense if I remember correctly. So the recognizable somehow becomes alien noir. I should try to find it, it’s been years since I saw it.
1001 Movies Week 4
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert! What really gave this film substance, for me, was the dynamic between the characters played so well by Weaving, Stamp and Pearce. Another wonderful aspect of Priscilla was the meeting of semmingly disparate elements of the Australian social landscape – Outback culture, the drag scene and ABBA mania. The ABBA craze was so rife in 70s Aus that it has been referenced in more than one film. (See also, Muriel’s Wedding).
1001 Movies Week 1
2001: A Space Odyssey is one of my all time favourites. I’m not quite sure why (or perhaps that’s part of the attraction). I enjoyed the experience of growing up with this film and found that with each viewing, some new and brilliant aspect revealed itself.
Hooray for Gilliam!
Wonderful selection this week! Especially the dark kids movies. Weirdest thing Addams Family isn’t out on DVD though Addams Family Values is. Countdown is on for the next Gilliam movie, can’t wait.
Dance Off 2009
Ok, so Oliver Reed’s style was well..Oliver Reed ie. it seemed logical for the intense kind of character he often played. But Oh! My! God! I nearly fell off my chair when McCallum blasted off and launched into his routine!! He gets my vote for the “take no prisoners” approach to dance! Lol!
Dance off
Gees, can’t tell much about Oliver Reed’s dancing. Gotta give points to McCallum for the strange knee drop bit – it’s unique if nothing else!
