As far as I can tell, Orypeci’s “Mr. Brightside” is only one of two Man from U.N.C.L.E. fan vids made this year. (At least made and uploaded on YouTube.) It’s full of Illya Therapy, plenty of angst and lots of shots that aren’t normally used in Muncle vids. After you watch this, you’ll never think of this song by The Killers without thinking of Illya Kuryakin. I (mostly) guarantee it.
I saw the Cinematic Titanic crew when they performed live in San Francisco riffing on this very movie. I was in serious pain by the time it was over with – I don’t remember an instance where I laughed so hard for so long. This little snippet will give you a taste of what I mean. If they come to a town near you, do yourself a favor and go see their show. You’ll thank me later. For all things Cinematic Titanic, just go to their website.
In my recent (and all too brief) sojourn to the Bay Area I was introduced to Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre and as a result I’m going to force SHARE them with all of you too. (If you have the “Doctor Who” DVD of “The War Games” you SO want to look for the hidden Easter Egg. “In exile?”)
Have I waxed lyrical about how much I adore Hal Sparks? If I haven’t, I should because I do. Here’s a small taste of the brilliance of his stand up act. Be sure to check out his Showtime special “Charmageddon” airing this month. It’s out on DVD soon, so be sure to pre-order your copy today! Okay, I’ve talked enough. It’s time for Hal to speak for himself.
Fall Out Boy, featuring John Mayer, does an amazing cover of the Michael Jackson classic. The video? Must be seen to be believed. It’s part tribute, part parody and completely brilliant.
Thebigbluemeany is one of my all-time favorite vidders. In this Man from U.N.C.L.E. video she focuses on love, dependence, comfort, control, bitterness, regret and a strange desire to see the other in physical pain – in a nutshell, the relationship between Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin.
I’ve been a Marxist since I was a little kid. Nothing has ever made me laugh harder than The Marx Brothers. This is probably Groucho’s most famous song, with some great Groucho one-liners following the set-ups by the ultimate straight woman Margaret Dumont from the movie “Animal Crackers”.
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love Tom Lehrer. Pavlowsdog has done a terrific job of finding just the right clips to go with this classic tune. Sit back, enjoy and try to name The Man from U.N.C.L.E. episodes/movies the clips are from – if you can!
